As the conference game approaches for boys JV soccer, they are hoping to overcome any obstacles they could encounter and step up their game. They have built up a 3-4-1 record, but will have a fresh start for conference.
As the season has progressed, Coach Paul Michealson has inspired his players, built a strong mentality, and implemented brilliant tactics. A member of the team, Kia Lari-Clark, even compared Michealson to Pep Guardiola, one of the best soccer coaches of all time.
Despite a great relationship between the coach and players, like any season, there have been setbacks.
“It’s been really hard having consistent practices with the weather,” said Michealson.
The team has amassed seven goals and 19 points. Three of those goals have come from David Shearin, the team’s top goalscorer. Other players who have scored are Hilton Tsiga, Wyatt Brown, Adam Elhassouni and Omar Abazid, who is the team’s assist leader.
Coach Michealson has expectations on the pitch and in the classroom, on the pitch he wants players to fight for the badge and act respectfully and in the classroom he wants them to be responsible and also respectful. He expects them to keep up with this balance well.
The JV boys’ soccer team has a desire to improve their results, and both the coach and players are confident they can do so. The team’s goal is to have a winning record in the conference, which is within reach for this group of young ballers. As the team improves technically and mentally, Michealson has ideas on how to step up their success.
“To improve, we need to close out games better. We can’t lose games at the end,” said Michealson.
The teams first conference game will be against Enloe, which will be their first game in two weeks. The long wait could impact them physically, but they will have time to improve on the things necessary. It will be a good test for Michaelson’s team. He believes a good mentality will benefit them for conference games.
“I try to tell my teammates you can’t just want to win. You have to need to win,” said Lari Clark.
