As the 2025 school year concludes, summer break is right around the corner for the students of Athens Drive. For graduating seniors, however, summer isn’t just a break from high school; it’s the end of it. And the start of a new journey after high school. One of these exemplary seniors is Lily Redmond.
“I chose Lily because, alongside her taking AP Studio Art, and completing everything on time and with quality work, she was also vice president of Animation Club, where she did a great job leading the group and managing outside projects for service hours. Her work ethic, as well as her unique personality and honesty, sets her apart from those around her,” said Erin Day, art teacher at Athens.
Redmond’s been drawing for as long as she can remember. She has taken multiple art classes at Athens, and mainly draws portraits.
“My favorite art piece that I’ve made is a replication of the album cover ‘Happier Than Ever.’ I spent a really long time working to make sure I perfectly copied Billie Eilish’s face. It took me like 2 days; I was really proud of that,” said Redmond. “I like drawing portraits because you never realize the complexity and beauty of a person’s face until you get to sit down and draw it. They are so difficult to do, because there are so many small details nobody sees, but that’s the fun of it.”

At school, Redmond is a leader and teacher to her peers. She takes leadership positions in both clubs and classes.
“Lily participates in class by taking on leadership roles in regards to group projects as well as giving advice to others when asked. She also has a nice way of balancing social time with her work,” said Day.
After graduation, Redmond is going to attend NC State with a major in Biology.
“I’ve always loved Biology; every single career I’ve ever wanted to do has been related to Biology. I did grow up on a farm, my grandparents owned cows, so I think that early exposure made me want to do something related to the environment, agriculture and biology. I have hopes of becoming a large animal veterinarian, but frankly, I change my mind almost every day,” said Redmond.
Redmond, along with hundreds of other Athens Drive seniors, starts a new chapter of her life this year. One where she has much more freedom, but also far more responsibilities.
“Lily is a very unique young lady, and I hope she never loses that quality,” said Day.
