Feb. 24 was the day of the State of the Union address, where the President of the United States addresses a joint session of Congress, provides an update on what their administration has done and shares what they plan to do as they move further throughout their presidency.
The last official State of the Union address was given by Joe Biden in 2024. Trump did address a joint session of Congress in 2025, it was not officially classified as a State of the Union address.
Just weeks ago we heard from Donald Trump, and he provided what he considered to be updates on what his administration has done and what they plan to do.
To keep it real and honest, let’s just get right into exactly what Trump said and what the reality of the situation is. Let’s get into the REAL State of our Union.
Claim 1: America is now respected again, and our enemies are scared.
Reality: America is now on the CIVICUS watchlist, a civil rights watchlist, and under President Trump, America has withdrawn from the Paris Climate Agreement. According to IPSOS, the Public Opinion Polling Institute Sector is located in Paris, France. From the 29 countries surveyed, 49% believe that China is a more positive influence than the U.S.
Claim 2: Biden had the worst inflation in history, and Trump has driven inflation down to 1.7%.
Reality: Inflation has not, nor has it ever been, within the last six months, at 1.7%. According to Trading Economics and Nerd Wallet, the lowest inflation we’ve seen was in January of 2026 at 2.4%.
Claim 3: Gasoline was a disaster under Biden, and in some states is now below $2 a gallon, and in others is $1 a gallon.
Reality: The national average as of February 26, according to AAA, is $2.98. Gas prices in states like California, Washington, Oregon, and Nevada remain well above $3 a gallon. In North Carolina, the average is $2.78. The president’s home state of Florida is seeing an average of $2.94, and even Washington, D.C., is seeing an average of $3.09.
Claim 4: The United States of America is richer and better than before.
Reality: This is false and for several reasons. The first reason is that, according to Understanding the National Debt, a website run by the U.S. Treasury Department, the United States is trillions of dollars in debt: $38.87 trillion to be exact. About $31-32 trillion of this debt is held by the public, which means that a piece of the national debt is owed to people and organizations not within the federal government, and $7-8 trillion is held by foreign countries and investors. The largest foreign holder is Japan, which holds around $1.18 trillion in U.S. debt. Followed by the United Kingdom, with an estimated $866 billion, and China with $680 billion.
Safe to say the United States is NOT as rich as the president says.
Most presidents use the State of the Union to highlight the country’s great successes and outline plans to build on them, but Trump chose to be vindictive and target those who oppose him.
Trump, at one point during the SOTU, turned to the Democrats, pointing and saying, “You raised healthcare prices, and I’m cutting them.” A lie followed by a lie.
What Democrats really did was pass the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which required insurance to cover people with pre-existing conditions and required healthcare plans to include more benefits, such as mental health and maternity care. The ACA also expanded Medicaid for low-income people and, overall, helped increase coverage for millions of Americans.
Yes, some insurance premiums did rise after the ACA was passed because insurance had to cover more people, provide more services and plans had to meet higher coverage standards and overall healthcare costs.
He also spoke about the country having no money because of the Democrats, who, by the way, are in the minority in both chambers of Congress.
So in reality, what we heard from Donald Trump on Feb. 24, 2025, was not the truth. Not sure what state the president is in.. maybe delusion?
