Every month, an exemplary student is chosen to represent the values and qualities of Athens Drive. This month, senior Anya Tikhtman has been nominated by math teacher Ginger Harrell.
Tikhtman is an editor of the Athens yearbook. He helps with design ideas, writing, interviewing other students, and publishing overall.
“I think I would choose the word inclusive for Anya because [he] goes out of [his] way to include as many students as we can in yearbook, but also, [he’s] open to so many different ideas. [He’s] open to the critique that I give or somebody else may give. [He] tries to include all of it,” said Harrell.
According to Harrell, Tikhtman is a quiet leader and does not give himself enough credit. He is a modest and laid-back person who wants to help everyone succeed.
“[He’s] very sensitive to how others feel, and [he] wants to make everybody feel welcome, and I think that’s just a really strong character trait,” said Harrell.
Tikhtman described himself as very outgoing, funny, adventurous, and someone who always has a project or activity underway. In addition, he is empathetic and enjoys helping others in lower grades, serving as a role model to those around him.
“I try to include everybody. I’m an editor, and it’s kind of our role to guide all the younger kids,” said Tikhtman.
Since childhood, Tikhtman has spent most of his life painting and drawing. He plans to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design, where he hopes to work in photography, specifically documentary photography.
Tikhtman was nominated not only for his work ethic but also for his talent in design and editing.
“[He’s] a hard worker. [His] eye for design is above and beyond. [He] can just see things on a page, and colors, and bonds, and spacing. [He’s] not afraid to try something new and different, and usually it works out, and it’s really good,” said Harrell.
Harrell relies on Tikhtman to be that strong role model for everyone, not only because he is a senior, but because that is who he is as a person.
“Having [him] as a really strong leader, a strong staff member for the yearbook, has just made it a little easier for me as a first-year yearbook teacher,” said Harrell.
Tikhtman is the ideal candidate to represent Athens Drive this month. He is a driven, friendly, and reliable person whom anyone can count on within the school and the community.
“Overall, I think I’ve learned a lot about publishing and creating this project of the year, and I’m proud of everybody in the class,” said Tikhtman.
