Reality Cromwell, a senior, has been awarded Jag of the Month. Every month, the English department is asked to nominate a student who demonstrates what it means to be an Athens Drive Jaguar. This month, Reality Cromwell was selected by Rachel Surles, an English teacher at Athens Drive.
“She’s cool. If you see her in the hallways, say hello,” said Surles.
Cromwell arrived at Athens Drive during her junior year. She began getting involved in school through activities she enjoyed doing in her everyday life. One of her biggest passions is singing in choir.
“What has always helped me stand out is that I’ve been in choir since fourth grade. So it’s something I’ve been doing forever and has helped me meet new people,” said Cromwell.
Although she was new to the school, she still found a way to get involved in school activities. This demonstrates her perseverance and resilience in putting herself out there and meeting new people. Cromwell is highly involved in the school, participating in choir, yearbook, and theatre. In choir, she learns many songs and practices her vocal technique. Even outside of school, she does choir.
“I do choir outside of school on top of choir at school. I just have to make sure that I memorize my music and keep all my folders separated,” said Cromwell.
Cromwell manages her time efficiently with two choir lessons every day. She stays diligent with her work and loyal to each class. Having an established routine and staying motivated for her future.
“[I want to be] Going somewhere in life,” said Cromwell.
In addition, she also performed in her first musical last year, based on Disney’s “The Little Mermaid”, and met more students who shared her interests. Her ambitious personality draws people in, making her more social within the school.
“It was my first time being in a musical, and it was a very good experience. I learned that I just love being around people who love doing the same thing as me,” said Cromwell.
In Surles’s English classroom, Cromwell makes sure to include her classmates whenever they don’t have a group, need help with assignments, or include every one of her classmates with a welcoming smile. She treats everyone with kindness, like when she arrived at Athens Drive.
After high school, Cromwell plans to attend a four-year university to get her undergraduate degree. She plans to go out of state to see new people and places. Athens Drive has helped Cromwell meet new people with similar interests to her and try new things.
“She’s in my English class, but I just think she has this positivity about her that is kind of infectious, and it’s nice, it’s a nice energy,” said Surles.
