Imagine having traveled more times than your age. Freshman, Dana Shefet, has visited Israel 16 times over the span of 14 summers with many more visits to come.
“I like it, I like going to see my family the best,” said Shefet.
Shefet’s extended family lives in Israel. When she visits she attends a camp that is on the campus of University of Tel Aviv and says that it is like camps in America and that they do the same kinds of activities kids do in the U.S. like crafts and boating.
“People there are a lot tougher and meaner than they are here, it’s completely different,” said Shefet.
Since the 20th century, Israel has been a part of many wars. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been going on for many centuries over mutual recognition, borders, security, water rights and control over Jerusalem. Even though they are in so many conflicts, they are still more technologically forward than even we are and people at younger ages are technologically smarter.
“It’s frowned upon there if you don’t have an iPhone and its normal to see a child walking around with one,” says Shefet.
She talked about how kids who are just four or five are holding iPhones and know completely how to use them while kids in America may use tablets to watch shows or play games but do not completely know how to use them, much less be able to use an actual iPhone. Also, older adults are clueless in the new iPhone craze because these goods came out when they would not be that much use to them much less have to be dependent on the items.
After seeing all the differences between America and Israel, Shefet says she loves both and wants to keep the summer tradition strong.
