Every year when Valentines Day comes around, girls at our school get filled with excitement knowing Singing Valentines are just around the corner. The highest chorus group at our school, vocal ensemble, practices for hours perfecting songs that will be sung to special someones. It seems like every year around this special day, our school turns into a remake of “Mean Girls”; girls getting songs of passion sung to them, flowers, and little stuffed animals from their loved ones.
“I like leaving it anonymous so people don’t know who gave it to them,” said Gabe Price, senior.
Students have the chance to buy their special someone a song to to be sung to them and add a rose or stuffed animal. While some may call this sappy or cliche, others think it’s sweet.
Senior Christy Gurganus is in the highest chorus class that gets to go around and sing to all the lucky students.
“I already love singing and missing the whole day to sing is cool,” Gurganus said.
While a lot of the people say it can be really embarrassing to have all eyes on you, people watching the performance would have to disagree.
“I like watching the people’s faces while they are being sung too,” said Senior Lindsey Bates.
The chorus groups sang over one hundred songs by the end of the day. All in all, this singing valentines day was a success with smiling girls holding their cards and flowers and boys feeling accomplished.
