Dodgeball sounds like a fun sport to play with friends during gym or even outside on a hot summer day, but Athens Drive takes it to another level by having a whole tournament for charity. This tradition of having a tournament always comes with lots of competition. Students would talk nonstop about the event before the day came. When dodgeball tournaments commence, drama fills the hallways and students begin to tense up.
While waiting for the tournament, teams were made: The Gladiators, Avengers, Epic Failures, Warriors, Exterminators, and The Troublemakers. Once everyone knew who was on their team, the competition started. Trash talk filled the hallways as players passed each other between classes.
Meanwhile, The Troublemakers started practicing their intimidation skills by randomly dropping dodgeballs in front of their rivals during lunch. The Epic Failures lived up to their name when they forgot to bring dodgeballs to their first practice.
December 13, 2024, gameday came, and so did the competition. Nets hung, floors shinned, and students were ready to play. The stands were packed with cheering students and homemade signs. The Gladiators started strong with a quick win against the Epic Failures, whose strategy seemed to be standing still and hoping that they went unnoticed. Next, the Avengers crushed the Warriors, whose captain tried to block a ball with his face—ouch.
The most intense game of the night was between The Exterminators and The Troublemakers. These teams had been feuding for weeks. Rumor had it that a Troublemaker replaced The Exterminators’ water bottles with pickle juice. In return, The Exterminators filled The Troublemakers’ lockers with dodgeballs. The match was wild. Balls flew everywhere, referees had to dodge throws, and even a gym teacher got hit. In the end, The Troublemakers won.
The tournament ended with an exciting final match between The Troublemakers and The Avengers. The crowd went wild. In a surprising twist, the Avengers were disqualified for their trash-talking after one player from the Epic Failures snitched. The Troublemakers were crowned champions. Their victory dance, which included cartwheels, will be remembered forever.
“As students left the gym, one thing was clear at Athens Drive: dodgeball isn’t just a game, it’s a battlefield.” said Athens Drive’s principal.
