    Daycation ideas

As summer quickly approaches, people are busy planning their summer vacations, but many people do not have the time to travel on long elaborate vacations anymore. More and more people are taking daycation -a day- long vacation- or doing weekend getaways. North Carolina provides a variety of daycation or weekend getaway options to suit many different interests.

“I think Daycations are a good idea for people who want to save money or people who are really busy but want to take a vacation,” said Emily Housel, junior.

Water ride lovers might like to take a trip to Wet N’ Wild, Emerald Point which is located in Greensboro, N.C. It has everything from a lazy river to a wave pool. Wet N’ Wild also offers rides for more adventitious people such as the devils drop, a 76 feet long downhill water slide. Everyone will find a ride they enjoy at Wet N’ Wild.

“ I do not like big slides, so my favorite thing to do at Wet N’ Wild is go in the lazy river,” said Housel.

North Carolina is famous for its beaches, a trip to the beach would make a perfect daycation or weekend trip.  Walking on the beach, tanning, playing in the sand, swimming in the ocean and shopping at the local store, are just some of the many things someone can do at the beach. If the beach is too far, Lake Jordan is a more local option for triangle residents. .

Kings Dominion, Carowinds and Busch Gardens are all close by for those roller coaster fanatics. Any of these amusement parks would be a great option and all of them are having special events this summer. Kings Dominion is celebrating forty years since they opened and is celebrating all summer long by bring back some of the classic Kings Dominion icons. Carowinds is having a one mile glow run October 4. Busch Gardens just introduced a new live show called “London Rocks,” a show about old rock n’ roll music.

“I love going to Carowinds, my family goes there every summer,” said Housel.

North Carolina is also home to many museums such as the Museum of Life and Science, the Natural History Museum, the Art Museum, and more.. Museums are a good idea if you want to learn more about a certain topic because they are very educational. If  animal lovers who want to learn more about animals, the North Carolina Zoo is located in Asheboro, North Carolina and just welcomed a brand new baby otter.

North Carolina has many local vacation ideas to fit everyone’s interests. To learn more about any of these places visit their website to schedule a trip or see upcoming events.
