MLB preseason and Overview

The major league baseball players have been playing in preseason games since Feb. 28, 2018. Different teams play against others in their league with a maximum of 30 games. All 30 teams have been practicing since the last World Series in 2017. For the players to be prepared for the preseason and season, the teams practice their hitting, fielding and pitching.

Many famous people in today’s world play major league baseball as a sport and job. Some of these players are Mike Trout, Jose Altuve, Aaron Judge and Kris Bryant. Trout is a designated hitter and center fielder for the Los Angeles Angels. Trout has been a six-times MLB all star player and has been a the American league MVP in 2014 and 2016. Altuve is a second baseman and hitter for the Houston Astros. Altuve’s team won the 2017 World Series (4-3) against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Judge is a right field and hitter for New York Yankees. Judge won the home run derby by himself in 2017. Lastly, Bryant is a third baseman, outfielder and hitter for the Chicag

Before the season starts there are multiple things MLB teams have to do in order to be ready. To begin with, the teams need to get players that can fit positions on the field and find backup players that can replace positions if the starter gets injured. When the coaches have the players ready for their positions, they have 30-plus games called preseason games, which is when the team has time to figure plays for their team, opposing teams, hitting and pitching.

Before the preseason games MLB teams “Watch videos, spend time in the training room, hit in the indoor batting cages, take early drills, lift weights, stretch, hold team meetings, take on-field batting practice and shag fly balls,” according to James Wagner of the Washington Post.

During preseason games they have multiple pitchers ready to go for any reason and ready for multiple games but during those practices they warm-up and take fly balls (a ball the goes really high in the air). The players spend more time practicing on the field before and after the field then how long the games last.

When the players have free time on and off the field, the players, “sit around, play video games on iPhones, watch movies on tablets, listen to music, play card games, watch television and eat;” said Wagner.
