College Football Playoffs

The  College Football Playoffs, CFP, is the first time top level NCAA championship determined by the committee that makes the brackets. It began in 2014 and it involves four teams to play in two semifinal games and the winners advance to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. The college football playoffs are determined by the selection committee which consist of 13 people who generally serve three year terms.

This year four teams are involved; the first team that made it in was the defending national champions who are ranked number one in the country: the Alabama Crimson Tide. The other team involved is number four ranked team in the country, the Washington Huskies. They are currently at a record of 9-1 their first loss came about when they lost to the number 20th team in the nation, the University Southern California Trojans won by a score of 26-13.

Another team that is also in the hunt to reach a college football playoff game is the number two ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. Their record this season is 9-1 and their first loss came when they lost to the number nine team the Penn State Nittany Lions 24-21. The two seminal final games are played at major bowl games such as the ro Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, and Orange Bowl. The Division 1 FBS is the only NCAA sport in which a yearly champion is not determined by an NCAA championship event and an official NCAA championship is given. The committee contains one athletic director from each of the five major conferences to determine who is in.

The number 4 team in the nation the Clemson Tigers have booked their seat in the College Football Playoffs, their first loss came to unranked Pittsburgh Panthers in a close battle and the Panthers won by a late field goal to end the tigers undefeated streak. Another team that could be in is the 21 ranked undefeated team the Western Michigan Bronco,s who are 11-0 this season and is looking forward to their first ever new year’s eve bowl game. The first two games that will be played is the Sugar Bowl and Rose Bowl on December 31 and the College Football Playoff championship game will be played January 17, 2017.

“I think that Alabama will win the college football playoffs” said OCS teacher Justin Koluw.
