Realism in teaching styles refers to the approach of teaching students as the teaching styles constantly change. It involves a certain type of awareness of the factors influencing the student’s learning environment that also leads to things students are going to need in the real world after school. There are many approaches to teaching and learning, for example, strict or laid back.  Many Athens Drive students claimed that teachers who are supportive, attentive, and simply kind provide them with a better learning experience than teachers who are strict.

“My favorite teacher is Mr. Clapp, I love the way he teaches and he has the ability to converse with students which makes the classroom environment engaging,” said Wesal Gourche, junior.

The University of Essex did a study on the most appropriate way to teach students, and the results stated that students with stricter teachers tend to rebel more often.( the study.)

“My favorite teacher is Ms. Barret. I think Ms. Barret was very helpful and actively listened to her students. My favorite attribute of teachers is when they are chill and take the time to get to know their students,” said Grace Woodall, junior.

Staff at Athens Drive impact students exponentially even when they don’t realize it, for example, coaches.

“My favorite teacher is Coach Bolster. He’s impacted me by making me better in football. I was not as good until Coach Bolster started coaching me. Love him,” said Chase Hardy, sophomore.

The rewards of teaching are in the hands of our teachers to display their way through the teaching of education with adaptability, and a strong commitment to the student’s success. Students claim they love teachers whom they can benefit from. While students feel that a teacher who is down to earth is what they need, others say that a strict teacher is what actually gets them to focus on the class work.

“I prefer a teacher who is strict because if they aren’t strict I can’t get myself to focus on the assignments, the assignments start to feel optional,” said Jersey James, junior.

Whether it’s love or hate, students state that teachers are a huge part of their adolescent years. Many teachers at Athens Drive High School dedicate years of their lives to students by navigating a composite way to put out genuine learning experiences for their students. Teachers at Athens Drive High School’s career not only to educate but to learn along the way.
