The Senior Breakfast is an annual event hosted for the seniors of Athens Drive to celebrate their achievements and how far they’ve come throughout their high school career. It allows seniors to get a break during school and enjoy a catered breakfast while having fun with their friends. This year, the senior breakfast was on April 11th, 2025.
”The Senior Breakfast is like the kickoff of the big senior events that will follow to celebrate the end of their years of school,” said Christopher Remaley, Senior Class Advisor.
The senior breakfast, put together by the PTSA, featured many activities. There was a photo booth set up where seniors could take pictures with their friends, and a raffle that happened towards the end of the breakfast that had over 200 prizes to give away to the seniors. Food was brought in and paid for by the Seniors’ parents, such as Chick-fil-a, Bojangles, and more.
“We had over 200 prizes given by raffle and lots of biscuits, doughnuts, and bagels,” said Joni Medlin, a parent volunteer.
The Senior Breakfasts are organized and funded completely by the Senior parents. Before this year’s breakfast, the seniors’ parents met up twice a month with the committees and organized the entire breakfast, planning out the raffle prizes, the activities they would set up, and the food they would bring.
”The Senior Breakfast is completely done by the senior parents. They raise the funds for it, they buy the food, the prizes, and everything else,” said Mr. Remaley.
Parents put a lot of time into fundraising and planning efforts for the event in order to celebrate the seniors and their accomplishments, as well as their future successes.
“Seniors deserved to be recognized and celebrated. They have worked hard to get to this point,” said Toni Beal, a parent volunteer.
The Senior Breakfast has been going on for more than 30 years, and has always been run by the Seniors’ parents. This year, the Senior Breakfast was run by Joni Medlin and Toni Beal. They said they chose to run it this year because they wanted to make it a great breakfast for all the seniors, and they wanted to give the seniors recognition for all the hard work they’ve put in throughout their high school career. They put together this event for the seniors, so that the students would be able to spend time with their friends and have a good time.
“Senior year is the last year you are with all your high school friends. Any time you get to spend time as a group together is special,” said Joni Medlin, a parent volunteer.
Many seniors thought the breakfast was a nice way to get out of class and spend more time with their friends, and many enjoyed the photo collages and looking back on all the memories they made together throughout their time in high school.
“I liked the photo collages because you get to look back on everybody’s high school careers, their highlights and their best memories and everyone having fun,” said Belle Olson, senior.
