Athens Drive Sports Recap

FOOTBALL: Athens Drive football went 7-4 overall with a 3-2 conference record. They have increased their win percentage by 27 percent and achieved their first winning season and first playoff season in recent years.

SOCCER: The Athens Drive soccer team had a 12-10-2 record with a 4-6 conference record. They rank 79 in the state and 681 in the nation. The team made it to the second round of the state playoffs.

CROSS COUNTRY: Athens Cross Country had seven top 10 finishes in the 10 races they competed in and won one meet overall. They had runners participate in conference, regionals and states.

WOMEN’S TENNIS: Athens Drive women’s tennis went winless against their 16 opponents but had won 26 matches during that time. They had a doubles team of Irena Brain, senior and Olivia Cassidy, freshman end the season with a record of 9-4.

WOMEN’S GOLF: The Athens Drive women’s golf team recorded four first place finishes and three second place finishes. Leader of the team was Jennifer Chang, senior who set a North Carolina record for an 18-hole round and win her fourth consecutive state title.

VOLLEYBALL: Athens Drive Volleyball had an 8-14 overall record and a 4-6 conference record. They won 30 sets, 13 more than last season and increased their win percentage by 17 percent.
