Each month, the Athens Oracle staff chooses one Athens Drive student to be the Jag of the Month based on recommendations from department chairs. Samyra Chadwick, senior, has been recognized as the Jag of the Month for November. Chadwick was nominated by English department chair Rachel Surles.
Chadwick is a student in Surles’s English IV Honors class and has shown unique promise throughout her short time in class.
“She already acts like an adult, and you can really tell that she’s going places in life,” said Surles.
Through her time as a Jaguar, Chadwick has become fascinated with psychology. She plans to pursue a career in that field once she graduates this spring.
“I truly believe helping others is my specialty and will forever be,” said Chadwick.
Chadwick has found a passion for the field because of her natural friendliness. She wants to apply those caring abilities to her future plans, as she aims to be a light in the lives of those around her.
“My friends would describe me as caring, outgoing, and open. I feel like I let everyone be themself around me. I like to be people’s safe place,” said Chadwick.
By being a safe person for people to confide in, Chadwick has found a home at Athens Drive. Past her academics, Chadwick has several interests outside of school.
“I enjoy reading and writing my own stories online. I also love traveling and taking pictures. Photography has been something I’ve been into since a kid,” said Chadwick.
This love for reading and writing has certainly translated for Chadwick into the classroom. Chadwick has shown remarkable drive within Surles’s English class.
“She is intelligent, organized, and mature… Additionally, she’s very respectful of teachers and classmates alike,” said Surles.
Chadwick has found passion within many creative outlets, and those around her cannot wait to see the success that college will bring her. All in all, Chadwick’s commitment to being a compassionate person is what makes her truly worthy as November’s Jaguar.
“Samyra really represents a lot of what being a Jag is all about,” said Surles.
