Cheering crowds, painted faces and lifelong rivalries hashing it out on the field, these are some of the memories that take place during a high school football game. One of the long-lasting memories made during high school is from attending the fun events that the school holds. There are many high school events that take place, specifically for the seniors, to make the best of their last year in high school.
Here is a list of a few events or activities seniors should partake in, despite any excuses to not attend:
Football games
Of course, football games are the first event all seniors should participate in. The best way to get into the school spirit is by dressing up in the themes chosen for each game to cheer on the school football team. The student sections at the games are made to cheer on the football team and bring the school spirit by dressing up according to the theme. Specifically, the seniors are meant to be front and center in the stands, encouraging other students to join in the fun.
Homecoming
For the first time in eight years, Athens Drive hosted its very own homecoming dance. The homecoming football game, pep rally, and homecoming court have always been a part of the Athens school spirit, and the dance is another new addition to enhance students’ spirit and create a fun environment. Although attendees are strictly Athens students, participating in your homecoming, or even going out to dinner and taking pictures with your friends, is what makes the night so special.
Prom
While there are students who cannot wait for prom season to come around, there are certainly the ones who think they are too cool for a lame school dance. But that is not the mindset to have as a senior. Prom is made specifically for the upperclassmen; why wouldn’t someone want to go? Whether it is with a friend group or a partner, prom is the perfect time to dress up and have fun.
Run for homecoming court
Homecoming is the very first school event besides sports games that is meant to fuel school spirit. Seniors specifically take the spotlight with their involvement in the homecoming court. The senior student body nominates seniors for homecoming court. Typically, friends write their friends’ names in mock to nominate them, but in reality, it is quite a fun experience. Those who do get nominated for homecoming are paired up and perform a minute-long skit with their partners during the first pep rally of the school year.
Senior assassin
Senior Assassin is essentially a water gun fight run by students, which is completely unaffiliated with Athens. Every high school student looks forward to their senior year so they can partake in senior assassin. Each student pays $5 to be able to join and make groups of five to battle one another in a bracket-style tournament. The winning group splits the prize money and wins ultimate bragging rights. Students battle one another outside school hours, finding each other while running errands, walking the dog, or getting home from school.
There are many events and activities made for seniors to make the most of their last year in high school. The troubles and struggles endured throughout the course of your high school years should not be forgotten, but celebrated. Celebrate by going out with your friends, attending these games and having fun at these events. You will be surrounded by classmates that have grown with you since freshman year and you will see how everyone has made the most of their senior year, so do not miss out!
