Students at Athens Drive are excited about the student council’s decision to hold a homecoming dance this year. The event will take place on October 19, 2024, in the upper gym from 7 to 10 p.m.
This announcement has sparked students’ interest in the school, and they have eagerly discussed their plans for the important night.
“We’re busy planning the homecoming dance for our first time since 2018, it has been six years since we’ve had one,” said Christopher Remaley, student council adviser at Athens Drive.
The student council has been working hard to ensure that this year’s homecoming will be a night to remember. They have planned various activities, including a photo booth, a DJ, and concessions. The theme for the dance will be “A Night In Athens Greece” and students are encouraged to wear sneakers instead of heels or dress shoes to protect the gym floor from scratches.
“There were a lot of options on the table, but we ended up deciding on Athens Greece because we go to Athens Drive, so it’s cool because it’s our school but Greece,” said Izzy Catalano, a sophomore at Athens Drive and student council member.
Tickets for the homecoming dance will go on sale through GoFan in October. This event allows students to come together, celebrate school spirit, and spend a night, relaxing with friends and enjoying themselves. Students can look forward to dancing to their favorite tunes. This evening is anticipated to be enjoyable.
“During homecoming week, we have a football game to try and get students into school spirit,” said Catalano.
In addition to the dance, there will be a spirit week leading up to the event, featuring dress-up days, a pep rally, and a football game to boost school pride. Excitement fills the air as students eagerly anticipate these events, which are expected to bring the school community closer.
“We’re working on a homecoming court and everything is just falling into place,” said Remaley.
The homecoming court will also highlight the evening, with students voting for their favorite candidates in the days leading up to the dance. The crowning of the homecoming queen and kind will take place at the football game, adding an extra layer of excitement and tradition to the night.
“There was a lot of push from juniors and seniors, the upperclassmen, that wanted to be able to do it and we got enough support this year. It did take a little bit for admin to warm up to the idea but we were able to convince them,” said Remaley.
As the event approaches, teachers get involved by encouraging students to participate in Spirit Week activities. With all these elements coming together, the sense of community and school spirit is at an all-time high, as everyone looks forward to a night that will bring the school together and create lasting memories.
“I’m so excited. I think we’re going to have a great time,” says Catalano.
This homecoming dance is expected to be a significant event of the school year and a memorable experience, reflecting a sense of community.
“When we come together and have fun, it makes the night much better,” says Catalano.
