There are many innovative minds behind little factors like knowing how to problem-solve uniquely or approaching life from a different perspective. Dayton Smith, a senior at Athens Drive, has all those factors and more. His drive to connect with his environment makes him stand out from the crowd.
“Dayton Smith stood out to me as the human of Athens for several reasons. First and foremost, his deep commitment to community engagement and development truly resonates with the values of Athens. He has a remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life, fostering inclusivity and collaboration,” said Jennifer Hulsey, Health Science Career Academy Director and Science teacher at Athens
Smith’s commitment to staying and engaging with his surrounding society makes him easy to distinguish from a crowd. He willingly connects with people, manages to help them feel included, and tries to work well with them in the best way possible. Dayton’s involvement in local initiatives highlights his passion and dedication to making a positive impact.
“Additionally, his innovative approach to problem-solving, especially in local initiatives, highlights his dedication to making a positive impact. Whether it’s through environmental sustainability projects or supporting local businesses, he’s always looking for ways to improve the community,” said Hulsey.
He also makes it his mission to always succeed in his classes and show his passion for his future. As a senior, he did a summer internship in Bali on the topic of endangered turtles. His presentation of the issue and ways to solve it showed his dedication to environmental and human health, educating his audience about what can and needs to be done to not make the turtles endangered any longer.
“I wanted to share his summer internship he did for the Health Science Career Academy this summer in Bali. Very impressive,” said Hulsey.
Dayton’s determination to work towards his goal and continue to care for others and his environment makes him an easy candidate for a good leader. His leadership skills continue to make him grow and excel in his studies despite the challenges.
“His passion for the history and culture of Athens adds a unique depth to his leadership. Dayton not only understands the present challenges but also appreciates the roots of the community, which allows him to advocate for a future that honors tradition and progress. This combination of empathy, innovation, and historical awareness makes him an outstanding choice,” said Hulsey.
