Barcelona fan Henry Velasquez, a tenth grader at Athens Drive, can’t stop talking about how exciting the Champions League is and what it means to him.
“It’s like this soccer war. The top teams from all over Europe face off, creating moments that stay with you forever. As a Barcelona fan, it’s cool to see our team play but it gets nerve-wracking when they play another big team,” said Velasquez.
Max Schmidt, another tenth grader who goes to Athens Drive, who’s all about the team Bayern Munich. Schmidt comments on how impactful the sport is for fans and players across the globe.
“The Champions League is like the biggest deal for soccer teams. The games are intense, and the drama is next level. Cheering for Bayern in this competition brings off emotions, but that’s what makes it so special,” said Schmidt.
The Champions League is turning into a major talking point in the athletic community. People from all over the world are coming together to celebrate this sport. Social media is going crazy with fans talking, arguing, and celebrating, making it feel like a virtual soccer stadium where everyone cheers for the teams they support. Even Americans like Ella Johnson a tenth grader that attends Athens Drive said people are getting into the Champions League action.
“I wasn’t a big fan of watching soccer growing up, but the Champions League pulled me in. The excitement and the skills just make me wanna keep watching it. I find myself cheering for teams I didn’t even know existed before,” said Johnson.
As the Champions League keeps growing in the soccer world, it’s proof that soccer is a sport that many people love. Whether you’re in a big soccer city in Europe or a small city [somewhere else], the magic of the Champions League is making soccer fans everywhere join in the excitement of the game and dream of winning the biggest soccer tournament ever.
“I don’t think I’ll ever stop watching the Champions League,” said Velasquez.
