Hannah Reynolds pursues softball at the collegiate level

Hannah Reynolds, senior, committed to Furman University August 2013. Surrounded by teammates, coaches and her parents, Reynolds signed her letter of intent Nov. 13 to play softball.

Reynolds has been playing softball for the last 7 years, beginning at Apex recreational before starting her traveling career with Cary Crush. As she got older, she played for her middle school team. Now she is playing in high school and continuing her travel softball with the Challengers.

Although softball is not the only sport Reynolds has played, there was something special about softball, and the people she played with that gave her the passion and determination to strive to play in college.

“I think I really enjoyed the people I was playing with, and I just found the sport to be more fun than any other sport I have ever played,” said Reynolds.

Reynolds also explained how much of an impact her parents and cousin had on her throughout the years she has played, supporting her and helping her to succeed as much as possible. Reynolds turned to her family for support, especially last year after tearing her ACL while playing during a tournament with her travel team. Not only did her parents show her a lot support, but also her cousin and soon to be coaches at Furman did too.

“My cousin really gave me hope that I would still be able to play in college because she also had an injury that hindered her possibility to play in college. But she was still able to work through it and play for the college she wanted,” said Reynolds.

Reynolds described how the coaches at Furman were extremely understanding and already knew the type of player she was. Furman encouraged her, explaining that by the time season started she would be back to normal and most likely even stronger than before her injury. The Furman coaches helped Reynolds realize that injuries happen all the time and that would not be what would hold her back.

“I was so worried about not being able to get a scholarship after my injury, but after talking to the coaches and my cousin, I knew it wasn’t just wishful thinking. I knew that I would be back to normal soon and would still get to play in college,” said Reynolds.

As Reynolds graduates this year to move on to bigger and better accomplishments, it was well known that she would be greatly missed by her teammates and coaches. Reynolds inspired many of her teammates to strive for their goals even when it seemed far from possible.

“Hannah has always been a very well-rounded softball player. On and off the field she is a leader and very encouraging to her teammates.  Hannah has been a huge part of the softball program since she was a freshman, and will continue to inspire us when she is gone,” said Breanna Tapp, Varsity softball coach.
