As the class of 2020 concludes their high school careers with an unexpected series of events, some athletes will be taking their talents to the college level. Here is Athens Drive’s very own college signees and their thoughts on their time at ADHS.
Daniel Baldwin: Gardner Webb University, Swimming
“States with Barry and everyone on the guys side are my favorite memories from high school. For all I’ve accomplished at Athens, and all we’ve accomplished as a team, none of it would’ve mattered as much had it not been as fun as it was. I can only hope that it’ll be as fun at Gardner-Webb.”
Adam Braden: William Peace University, Lacrosse
Myles Coble: St. Augustine’s University, Football
“Playing on the Athens Drive Football Team really matured me not only as a football player but as a man. The coaches and players taught me that I’m no better than the next person trying to get where I was. What I’m most looking forward to at St. Augustine is having a fresh start and have a opportunity to make a name for myself with a whole new crowd in not only football, but in the classroom and around campus.”
Cailin DeLeo: Berry College, Cross Country
“Athens Drive Cross Country was an extremely supportive and fun group of people that helped me to really fall in love with running. I’m forever thankful for my experience on the team! At Berry, I look forward to continuing to grow as a runner, teammate and individual.”
Ethan Finsel: William Peace University, Swimming
Kelly Kaufmann: New Hampshire University, Volleyball
“Playing for Athens Drive volleyball has been an amazing experience that has helped me grow as a leader, teammate, and player. I am so excited to play for New Hampshire next fall in order to experience a new level of volleyball and meet new people!”
Lexi Lemmons: Methodist University, Soccer
“Athens Drive soccer was definitely one of a kind– those girls are my family. They always help one another strive to be better. I am looking forward to having the same bond with my teammates at Methodist.”
Hanna Malik: Washington and Lee University, Basketball
Selah Markulin: St. Andrews University, Cheer
“Athens was a great experience, cheering here started my ‘cheerleading career.’ The Athens Cheer team taught me everything I need to know, and I’m hoping at St.Andrews I’ll be able to continue learning. College level cheer is the challenge that I’m looking for and I hope St. Andrews can provide that and much more.”
Channing Neal: Montreat College, Lacrosse
Takeo Shakur: St. Augustine’s University, Football
Cameron Thomas: University of South Carolina, Swimming
“I loved hanging out and swimming with my Athens teammates. They always put a smile on my face and some of my best swimming memories are from ADN swim. As for South Carolina, I’m really looking forward football games in Willy B!”
Carter Toran: Catawba College, Lacrosse
“My experience with Athens Lacrosse was great, my teammates and coaching staff are like family to me. Athens lacrosse is a brotherhood. What I’m looking forward to at Catawba is playing with another group of brothers and hopefully winning a championship within my 4 years.”
Gerardo Vasquez-Leon: Young Harris College, Lacrosse
