Brooklyn rapper, Tekashi 6ix9ine’s quick rise to fame caught the eyes of many people. Daniel Hernandez, born in 1996, grew up in Brooklyn, New York. In 2014, Hernandez started to make music under his alias “Tekashi 6ix9ine.” He became a hard to miss online figure with his rainbow hair, “raw vocals” and an abundance of tattoos. He estimates he has over 200 tattoos.
Hernandez was arrested and charged with use of a child in a sexual performance in 2015. He plead guilty and was sentenced to one year of probation, 300 hours of community service and two years of mental health treatment.
“I think he’s overall pretty crazy and should stay in jail because of his past” Said Noah Batts, Junior.
Tekashi released his new song “Gummo” October 2017. The rappers debut single peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2018, the rapper got into trouble with the law and was charged with multiple crimes including operating a vehicle without a license, facilitating aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, multiple misdemeanors and assaults. 6ix9ine was investigated regarding multiple shootings, including one involving Chicago rapper, Chief Keef.
Hernandez managed to avoid jail time until November 19, 2018 when he was arrested on federal charges of racketeering and firearms, both involving a gang called “Nine Trey Bloods.” Hernandez faced many charges including racketeering, possession of firearms, armed robbery, drug trafficking and conspiracy to commit murder. Two of the crimes he was charged with could land him a lifetime in prison. Hernandez pled guilty to nine counts of federal racketeering. Sept. 17 Hernandez testifies against the Nine Trey Blood gang in court.
6ix9ine will be sentenced Dec. 18 this year. Thanks to Tekashi’s cooperation and testimonies it is possible that he could be released by 2020. 6ix9ine stated that he will deny being in the Witness Protection Program if released.
Oct. 10, Tekashi 6ix9ine signed a 10 million deal with “10k” Records, the largest record deal made while in jail. 6ix9ine signed a two album deal with one album being in English and the other in Spanish Tekashi used social media and music trends to quickly become a well-known name. “I knew I had a formula,” said Hernandez. 6ix9ine hopes to hop back into the rap game right where he left off; he will not know what is to come until he is sentenced later this year.
