Polar Express Event

This year’s annual Polar Express event was a big success.  Children of the Athens Drive family and those in the area were able to come together and enjoy various holiday activities.  Many students from National Honors Society, National Art Honors Society and International Thespian Society helped organize and run the event.

Additionally, there was a book drive in which children’s books were donated by students to go to underprivileged kids in the community.  Some of the activities included face painting, making balloon animals and writing messages on a poster outside the auditorium.  All of these activities led to the showing of the Polar Express movie.

The event started at 4 p.m.  Students had one hour to come in because the movie started at 5 p.m.  After the movie, everyone who attended participated in all the activities that were provided until the event ended at 8 p.m.

“Pastor CJ from Ekklesia Church estimated that there were over 300 people in attendance,”  Kerri-Ann Ruthven, librarian, said.

Every one of the activities was very successful.  There was pizza, soda and desserts provided by Ekklesia Church.  The Ekklesia Church also projected the movie followed by pictures of Santa.  ADMHS Chorus and Theatre students served hot cocoa, and the ADMHS Drum Line performed Little Drummer Boy.

Ruthven mentioned how well the student volunteers did.

NHS students held a book drive prior to the event-they collected over 1,000 new or gently used picture books for kids and volunteered at the event to supervise the book giveaway, also the above clubs and student organizations volunteered!
