Climate change has affected many parts of the world, altering numerous weather patterns. Global warming has been proven to be real many times and is causing many issues. California has and is currently suffering from mass wildfires, bigger than any seen before. Antarctica has been going through the drawbacks of rise in the temperature as many animal species have become endangered and sea levels rise. These are just a few examples of what climate change is doing.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   North Carolina has been known to have a mild weather history; winters that are not too cold and summers that are averagely hot. But in the past few years, climate change has made a noticeable impact. The summers have been some of the highest temperatures ever recorded and the lowest during the winter. One winter, people could be in shorts and T-shirts, the next they could be in snow suits.

“If we don’t do something about it now, we’re gonna regret it,”said Kanani Sipriene, senior.

When it does snow in North Carolina it is handled almost as if it is an emergency every time due to the fact that we do not have much experience with cold climates. Many students recall times that the snow here prohibits them from going out and engaging in activities in North Carolina.

“I feel like snow is nice, but not in North Carolina because we can’t go anywhere in the snow and everyone panics,” said Hannah Baldwin, senior.

North Carolina has seemed to step up their game in preventing snow to interfere with traveling during the winter. They spread ice melting salt and warn citizens of the dangers that may come. However, many believe they have a long way to go until North Carolina can operate smoothly when it snows.

As far a climate change goes, the effects of this issue are becoming more and more clear as time goes by, therefore, it is imperative that people must act now to prevent any further issues.

Actions such as attempting to pollute less, conserve more and spreading awareness are all great examples of how to help. If more people, especially those of younger generations, were more conscious of being environmentally green, the future environment could be better than ever before. At Athens, there are numerous clubs to join such as Recycling Club and Environmental Club.
