Alabama College Basketball played a game with only 3 people and almost won

25th ranked Alabama Crimson Tide faced off against 14th ranked Minnesota Gophers. During the game Alabama’s Collin Sexton traded trash talk with Minnesota’s guard Nate Mason, which caused a chippy attitude throughout the whole game.

“The game got a little out of hand,” said Riley Norris Assistant Coach.   Nate Mason’s coach Richard Pitino had tried to come to Nate Mason’s aid, which caused the referee to call a technical foul on Coach Richard Pitino.

After Alabama  shot four straight consecutive free throws , Minnesota’s Dupree McBrayer and Alabama’s Dazon Ingram got into a shoving match that soon entangled most of the players on the court.  With Alabama’s bench seeing this altercation, the Alabama bench then got up and walked onto the court, which is illegal. The referees ejected every active player on Alabama’s bench, with leaving them only five players to play against Minnesota’s full lineup.

Only a few plays after, Dazon Ingram picked up his fifth foul and could not play for the rest of the game. Then with only 11 minutes to play freshman John Petty sprained his ankle and had to be helped off the court. This left Alabama with only three players to play against Minnesota. Despite them being two men down, they played well and almost won the game, with them playing a 1-2 zone, which is where one person plays defense at the three point line and two people play defense on either side of the basket, while playing a spread offense.

The final score of the game was 89-85, with Sexton scoring 40 points despite playing a five man game with only three people. Sexton also stood out on defense with one block, six rebounds and five assists.

“At first, we was like more serious, I feel like after the game, when we started having fun, it was like ‘Dang, we just played three on five.’ But during the game, it was serious. A few smiles here and there because we was tired and coach was like ‘Dig deep, dig deep guys. You’re not tired yet.’ We was like ‘Coach, we’re giving it everything we’ve got,” said Sexton shortly after the game to reporters.

Even though the Crimson Tide fell short to the Gophers, they made an inspiring effort with only having three people and only losing by 4.
