Equality for Women

A statue placed in celebration of International Women’s Day on Wall Street was completely disrespected. The statue featured a little girl called “Fearless Women.” A man came along and assumed it was his right to freedom of speech, so therefore, he humped the statue of the girl while his friends cheered him on, which encouraged his behavior. Women are still fighting for numerous rights that should have been received more than 100 years ago.  People should live in a world where they can equally compete against peers regardless of their gender.

Many women have paved the way to greatness today, but there is still more to accomplish. Legally women have rights, but they are being taken advantage of by society. According to Newcastle University in England, they have proven that girls mature faster than boys by using a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) on their brains. Regardless of the results, this does not justify male behavior. Guys get a free pass to act the way they do because people use their immaturity as an excuse for their behavior.

Not too long ago, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) sued Costco, a multi-billion dollar global retail company, because they fostered a sexually hostile environment against one of the female workers. Costco was violating Article VI, which prohibits discrimination against race, color or national origin. If there is a visible problem, it needs to be fixed. Do not be a part of the problem; be a part of the solution and stand up for what is right.

The Women’s March in Washington Jan. 21, 2017 brought awareness to affordable birth control, equal pay for equal work, and full access to healthcare for transgender Americans. Women marched to express how they were not getting treated equally and to let the president, Donald Trump, know what he should fix while stepping into presidential power and filling Barack Obama’s, former president, huge shoes. As a president, someone in high power should not make disgusting comments that will offend some women; they should lead as an example to current and future society.

“You know I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it, you can do anything” said Trump.

Women should have all the rights men do because at the end of the day, we are all flesh and bone. Gender should not define any human being nor should it state the rights one has over the other. Society needs to welcome women and allow them to show off the talent they possess. In the end, women’s rights are human rights.
