2017 senior breakfast breaks school record for amount of prizes given out

The 2017 senior breakfast set a record for the most prizes given out to students. Making a grand total of $10,000 spent on prizes for students. Parents gave out many gift cards to Starbuck’s, Frankie’s, Applebee’s or REI. They also gave students coupons and other prizes. Parent volunteers have planned this event for seniors since November. The event took place in the school gymnasium and was decorated using a blue and orange color scheme Feb. 2. Breakfast foods were provided, as well. The purpose of the senior breakfast was to reward the current upperclassmen, as well as to honor the early graduates of the class of 2017.

Many Teachers supervised the event and helped pass out prizes to students. Christopher Remaley, math teacher and senior advisor, was the prize announcer at the breakfast.

“(It’s) free food, free prizes, and a whole lot of fun with your friends,” said Remaley.

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) committee was in charge of planning the event.

“It takes a lot of coordination and we need a lot of volunteers to make this a special day for the seniors,” said Stephanie Gripho, head leader of the event.

Throughout students’ four years of high school, they look forward to the advantages of senior year.

“It’s so nice to finally be the one who gets to leave class and get all the perks of senior year,” said Abby Brinkman, senior.

The school gym was also decorated with a 2017 balloon arch. Students arrived to a breakfast buffet of assorted foods such as granola bars, bananas, yogurt and donuts.

“The food was awesome and there were a lot of choices; it was delicious,” said Katherine Clapp, senior.

Being a senior comes with a lot of perks, one being the senior breakfast, along with senior exemptions, the senior picnic and getting to sit on the very bottom row at the football games. The seniors are looking forward to the remainder of the school year and more big events.

“I am really excited for graduation and prom the most this semester,” said Peyton Brownlee, senior.

All of these events dedicated to the senior class take time and planning ahead. While events such as prom and pep rallies are organized by students and student council, the annual senior breakfast is always run by parent volunteers.

“Any junior parent who would like to help next year, please contact us (Stephanie Gripho and Becky Ruth) for more information so we can make it another special day for next year’s seniors,” said Gripho.
