At Athens Drive High School, with so many students, it’s easy for some to slip through the cracks, but it is our responsibility to highlight the students with exceptional talent that often go unnoticed.
Rihanne Gibson-Moore, better known as Ray, is one of these remarkable students who has an unrelenting passion for creativity. With her outstanding ability to balance their creativity and academic achievement, Gibson-Moore exemplifies what happens when hard work and talent collide.
Gibson-Moore’s dedication and personality stand out to all but especially to those who teach her. One such teacher, Christopher Remaley, is her second- period math teacher during the first semester. Known for his humor and energetic personality, Remaley was able to witness how Gibson-Moore balanced her academics and artistic ability.
“She’s always balancing whatever we’re doing in math 4. She’s balancing her artwork, like she’s literally multitasking,” said Remaley. He adds, “she’ll be working on the math stuff that we’re doing at the same time she’s doing artwork at the exact same time she just goes back and forth and to me. I would find that extremely distracting, but she manages to balance it and she’s a top star student. I mean she really is.”
Gibson-Moore’s passion for art began at home, where creativity runs deep. “My hobby is drawing and what started this was my family. We’re all pretty good at drawing, and I wanted to improve so I practiced.” This early start in her talent inspired her to refine and practice her skills. Her dedication and ability to both her hobby and academics is truly inspiring and influential.
Gibson-Moore’s achievements are not just from her dedication but from her unique personality. Gibson has described herself as a funny hardworking and energetic person and those who know her agree. Her willingness to help those around her doesn’t go unnoticed.
“She’s considerate. I think she’s kind and she’s very helpful. I’ve noticed her before helping other students. She’s always very compassionate and caring about other folks,” said Remaley.
Gibson-Moore’s personality and dedication runs deeper than what anyone sees. She isn’t your typical “smart” student, she is something much more. As her Remaley puts it, “There are so many more layers to her, and I think that’s what I’ve enjoyed about getting to know her.”
