The teacher, Ashley Turner, nominated freshman Bryce Casper and Asher Sicvol for Humans of ADHS. This was not because of their grades or sports talent like many other nominees, but because of their interesting hobby of storm chasing.
Asher and Bryce are freshmen at Athens Drive and take multiple classes together. In those classes, they have become great friends. They are respectful students who have a playful and fun attitude for school and their hobbies.
“In class, Bryce and Asher are both personable, respectful, and highly motivated, both in terms of their academics but also in pursuit of their dreams,” said Turner.
Storm chasing is where you travel to a place with severe weather and photograph or study it. In order to do so, you usually use expensive fancy equipment. Asher and Bryce, however, do not have this equipment, and while this is a setback for them, their passion makes them adapt and find other ways.
Asher and Bryce use their social media to share their hobby with others. They post a lot of videos of storm-chasing findings, and they even act as weather forecasters for some followers. The duo hope they can continue growing through social media to reach more people.
“I hope my social media can help interest other people in storm chasing,” said Bryce.
The process of storm chasing for them involves checking the forecast and doing research on future weather patterns. It also involves finding the next weather event. After finding the event, the boys travel to the location, take videos or pictures of the event, and post them on social media. Despite a similar process, both boys have different techniques and styles for storm chasing.
Storm chasing is very unique and shows their curiosity: it also really excites them. Their interest in storm chasing could help them land a job as a meteorologist or climatologist. Furthermore, they could fulfill their dream and actually become a storm chaser in the future. Being a Storm chaser is a good job and would be perfect for them to have their hobby as a job.
“My dream is to become a great storm chaser when I’m older,” said Bryce.
