June 8, 2024, Athens seniors will walk the stage, take their diplomas, and finally finish high school. One of those Seniors is Skylar Moore, a senior who has seen all of what Athens has to offer.
“I did the National Art Honor Society, I did soccer freshman and sophomore year, I did the knitting club for a while; recycling club I did as well,” said Moore.
While Moore may have been a part of many activities at Athens, Creative Writing II with Rachel Surles has her heart. She encourages other Athens students to take Creative Writing during their time in high school.
“Skylar stands out because she has a particular way of viewing the world. In Creative Writing, she has brought such interesting characters to life — characters that surprise us and end up stuck in the minds of those who [are] lucky enough to read about them,” said Surles.
Moore dreams of attending NC State after attending Wake Technical Community College (Wake Tech) for two years. When asked to describe her Athens High School experience, she said ‘tiring’. With all the work that high school gives its students, it would be hard to disagree with her, but she has confidence in rising freshman.
“Don’t take everything so seriously… like if you have a bad hair day, no one’s going to care in two weeks, not even that, no one’s going to care in a week,” said Moore. “Nobody cares about your flaws more than you ever will.”
When asked about her favorite part of Athens, Moore responded that the people were the best. This is true for many people; high school is where almost every teen makes their closest friends as they grow into adults.
“It’s just entertaining, half the people you meet here are really fun and great, great people. I’ve made some great friends, especially this year. I’m pretty sure we’ll stay friends even after high school; So that’s probably my favorite part here,” said Moore.
