Senior spotlight: Keren Mikobi

If there’s one word to describe senior Keren Mikobi’s high school experience, it’s brilliant. From navigating an isolated freshman year to conquering the challenges of transitioning back to in-person learning, Keren has embraced every twist and turn with elegance and determination.

“Every year brought something new,” said Mikobi.

While the COVID-19 pandemic forced her to transition into remote learning, it also provided valuable time for self-reflection. Returning to school brought challenges, allowing Keren to build new friendships and create lasting memories.
“I was living my high school experience being a normal teenager, who goes to a football game, but being on the field and being able to experience that was an amazing time for me,” said Mikobi.

Mikobi’s athleticism has been a constant source of pride throughout her high school career. A triple jump champion and third-place finisher, she left her mark on the track, and in the field record books. Her dedication earned her the ‘Coach’s Award’ in her junior year and is a testament to her hard work and sportsmanship. Beyond track and field, Mikboi served as a football manager and played volleyball, showcasing her athletic abilities and team spirit.
“Feels like high school, a broad area where I’ve met people and made connections with those people,” said Mikobi.

“I was living my high school experience being a normal teenager, who goes to a football game, but being on the field and being able to experience that was an amazing time for me,” said Mikobi.
Mikobi embraced leadership roles outside of athletics as a Blue Crew leader, guiding and helping to cheer on athletes. Balancing her academic pursuits with two jobs, she embodies the true meaning of dedication and responsibility.

After high school, Mikobi is excited to embark on her next chapter at UNC-Chapel Hill, her goal is to obtain her associate degree in two years, laying the foundation for a future in becoming a pediatrician.

“Keren Mikobi is an outstanding senior, a terrific student in class, and a great leader in the classroom,” said Christopher Remaley

Mikobi has learned a lot, not only from education itself but also from teachers. Teachers are so important because they make the students feel comfortable within the learning environment. Her favorite teachers who have helped her grow and develop more are Christopher Remaley and Firstname Perez.

“Mr. Remaley honestly inspires me and makes me happy, and always seems to radiate positive energy,” said Mikobi.

Perez has achieved so much and helped Mikobi see the world differently as Perez has accomplished so much when it comes to sports and her life in general. She is a well-educated coach as she does have her master’s degree, and this has inspired Mikobi to reach for the stars, if not better.

“I wanna be at that same standard when I grow up because she is an intelligent woman who does have her masters,” said Mikobi.

Mikobi’s favorite memory at Athens Drive was beating their rivals, Cary High School, as a football manager in their home. It was a breathtaking moment as all of Athen Drive cheered together for at least two minutes straight, happy with the team’s accomplishments.

Four years of high school have introduced her to the inside and the outside world, as she volunteers a lot, offering her help to our community. She is a driven Athens drive student with a bright future outside of this school, and it’s remarkable that she got to discover her talents within this school.

“Athens Drive has been home for me for 4 years,” said Mikobi.

Mikobi’s journey is truly a testament to the power of embracing new experiences and having the ability to choose your own path. As she prepares to graduate, one thing is certain. Mikobi’s future is as bright as the love she shares with everyone else.
