Footloose

Athens Drive theater will be performing “Footloose” as their annual spring musical this year. The cast has been rehearsing for the past few months and is excited to put on a show they hope will be upbeat and great.
“I love the cast of the musical so much. The music is a little hard with a lot of key changes, but it gets easier with practice,” said Amory Lawson, sophomore, the lead of the musical.
Lawson’s first play was one she performed at Raleigh Little Theatre when she was eight and has loved acting ever since. She will be playing the lead of the play, Ariel. This will be Lawson’s second play at Athens Drive.
“I feel like the musical will be really good, and the cast is killer,” said Lawson.
This musical will be following the Broadway musical, “Footloose.” They hope to make it as entertaining as the original.
The cast is a very close group that enjoys the countless hours they spend together. They have been rehearsing since mid-February in hopes that all of their hard work will pay off.
Ms. Burgandy Trimmer, the director of the musical, has much experience in the world of drama. She keeps the cast on track and focused. She directs and choreographs the show, and gives a chance for kids to show their personalities and have fun while performing.
“Ms. T is hilarious and smart. She gives really good direction,” said Lawson.
Lawson is debating on what she will pursue in her future, and musical theatre is definitely high up on her list.
The play will be performed May 8, 9 and 10.
“Be sure to come and see it, it’s going to be a good one!” Said Lawson.
